It's very simple and logical. In 1959 when Fidel Castro seized control over Cuba he immediately Nationalized every tobacco factory/plantation in the country. The owners revolted, gathered up their best tobacco seeds, (commonly called 1st generation Cuban seed) and relocated to the Dominican Republic, Honduras and Nicaragua. In today's cigar world 80% of all cigars sold in the US come from those 1st Generation seeds. The Dominican Republic is only 800 miles from Cuba, they share the same climate and the soil is just as fertile.
CONCLUSION: So what do you have when you take a 1st generation tobacco seed from Cuba and plant it in a similar environment?
