Fair Trade Goods: Supporting Families Around the World The mission of WOVEN PROMISES is to create economic partnerships through support of entrepreneurial efforts of talented, economically struggling people in the developing world. We form these partnerships through the fair purchase and resale of their products. The further goal of the partnership is to provide assistance to improve the quality of their lives and is based on a foundation of deep appreciation of their cultural heritage and traditional artisanry. Woven Promises presents our exquisite, organic, plant-dyed, handmade, sustainably traded 100% Silk Scarves and Shawls created for us in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. These products are WFTO recognized. Silk is one of the oldest fibers known to humanity. Silk has played an important part in the social and religious life of Ethiopia throughout its history. Our scarves and shawls are woven from wild organic silks such as eri and mulberry. It can be spun into fine or coarse textured threads that behave much like cotton. It is versatile and provides the luxury of silk, the comfort of cotton and the warmth of wool. The qualities of eri and other silks emerge when dyed with the rich palette of natural dyes made from flowers, roots, berries and bark. We offer our scarves and shawls in light and heavy weights and in several beautiful colors that vary seasonally. Our fall colors are: Olive, Aqua, Plum, Charcoal, Beige, Tangerine, Walnut, Light Charcoal, Raspberry and Dark Blue. NEW PRODUCT: THE GYPSY SCARF This lovely, colorful scarf is 65% organic silk and 35% organic cotton. The silk and cotton are handspun from plant-dyed fibers. The scarves are handwoven by master weavers in Ethiopia and are WTFO recognized. Each is a unique creation available in three color combinations; choose earth tones highlighted with rich cranberry/grey, green/blue or plum/gold colors.
