Born in Barcelona, Xavi José was encouraged by his grandfather who was a projectionist, to attend film school. After gaining a Master of Cinematography, he moved to Madrid. After a long career as camera assistant (second and first) in Spain, Germany, Italy and the UK, he started shooting short-films, musicvideos and commercials and he just finished his first feature film called Radio Love selected for the Toronto Film Festival 2008. He have traveled and work around India, Cuba, Italy, The States, the UK, Mexico and most of Latin America. He have an extensive knowledge of the cinematography craft, after working with many well known cinematographers and directors like Olivier Gondry, Michael Ballhaus, Hype Williams, The Chau Ngo, Javier Salmones and Unax Mendia. He strongly believe that the art of filmmaking is a collaborative profession, where we have to be very open all the time to hear what others have to say, to see what others want to show, to understand what others want to teach us, and to give everything we want to share with our creative partners. His work as a cinematographer has spanned from feature films, national commercial campaigns, music videos and documentaries. His work has garnered international recognition and film selections at numerous festivalsaround the world, including IDFA in Amsterdam, Dokfest in Munich, Miami Film Festival and Toronto Film Festival. He just finished his first shortfilm as director and cinematographer, produced by Sony Playstation and Montxo Armendariz.
