Description: Anja von Kalinowski is a couture seamstress and QEST scholarship awarded embroiderer at the Royal School of Needlework. After taking her BA in Theatre Studies, she served her tailoring apprenticeship at the prestigious Elise Topell Couture in Wiesbaden, and has worked for the last 4 years at the Vivienne Westwood studio in London.‘My artistic aim is a perfect fusion of couture tailoring and highly detailed embroidery work to create unique garments for my clients. My philosophy is the combination of personality, fabric, cut and fine embroidery performed in the tradition of craftsmanship and art. All three factors result in the perfect connection between design, material and customer aiming to create a finished item that is ultimately tailored, personalised and elegant. My aim is to divert from the commercially restricted creativity of todays fashion industry and return to the traditional refined ideas of craftsmanship and art.'Anja von Kalinowski is currently attending her second year at the Royal School of Needlework in Hampton Court, and received the annual prize for gold embroidery from the Worshipful Company of Gold and Silver Wyre Drawers in 2010.
