Bowie County Republican Women - HOME

Description: The Bowie County Republican Womens Club was founded and organized by Martha Downs in 1998. Letters were mailed to prospective members from every community in Bowie County inviting them to an Organizational Meeting April 23,1998 which was held at the Maverick Restaurant in Maud, Texas. The guest speaker was Mary Ann Oden, Chairperson to Re-elect George W. Bush governor of Texas. On May 4, 1998 the Bowie County Womens Club met at the Maud Church of Christ Fellowship Hall for a luncheon prepared by Martha Downs and Ramona Lewis. Donations were made to cover the cost of the food. Martha Downs welcomed everyone and asked each one present to tell about themselves to help determine in which offices each would be best qualified to serve. After the meal, the floor was opened for nominations for the following officers: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Committee Chairpersons. All nominations made from the floor were seconded and accepted unanimously.
