Catch Me Bird dance | theater | reality performance March 2011: Catch Me Bird visits San Francisco in March to begin work on "Off The Walls", a collaboration between the De Young Museum, composer Sarah Wilson, and Catch Me Bird. This site-specific performance, supported by an award from the Gerbode Foundation, premieres in 2012, and will include original live music and aerial dance in the unique architectural atmosphere of the De Young. Nehara begins working with La Contemporary Dance Company to create a commissioned work for their spring concert in May. February 2011: Catch Me Bird is very excited to be awarded a commission to work with composer Sarah Wilson and the de Young Museum in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park. December 2010: National Broadcasts on December 8, 10, 23, 25 Catch Me Bird is honored to be selected as a highlighted company on the special one-hour broadcast of The Chandler Pavilion’s Christmas Eve extravaganza. Our performance, accompanied by live original music by Ry Welch and ensemble, premieres on your local PBS station along with Sweet Honey In The Rock and other celebrated music and dance artists December 8, 10, 23, 25. (check local listings) November 2010: Catch Me Bird’s 2010 premiere performance of IRON will be airing on LA36. Our friends in the Los Angeles area can view a sweetened condensed version of IRON Live at The Ford Amphitheatre November 3 at 12 noon & 8 pm, November 7 at 6 pm. October 2010: Catch Me Bird performs at California Institute Of The Arts- Sharon Disney Lund Dance Theater for the Commuter Festival, and teaches a master class in athletic & contemporary partnering in the dance department. September 2010: Catch Me Bird has a successful show at the White Wave Festival in Brooklyn, New York in front of a packed house. We were surprised to learn that our image was used in many of the promotions for the DUMBO Arts Festival. August 2010: Catch Me Bird has a great listing in Angeleno Magazine this month. RedCat June 13 & 14, and the vibrant new Hollywood Fringe Festival June 19 & 20. See Anvil (brand new excerpt from IRON), named after the block with a hard surface where the hot metal is placed and then beaten into shape. Hmmm... what's going on in this relationship? April 2010: We really cracked them up at the Help Desk/L.A. showing of ANVIL at Highways Performance Space, a new piece for our premiere of IRON on August 13 at the Ford Amphitheater. Spring showers brings Catch Me Bird to new creative places at Djerassi as they hunker down in their push to create IRON. March 2010: We are very excited to be presented as the finale on the Celebrate Dance! program at The Alex Theatre on March 13. This month we also have culminating performances with our Artist-In-Residence workshop series group (thank you, LA Cultural Affairs grant!) as well as The Heart Project final video project. Then we begin our month-long artists' retreat at Djerassi, where we will create the choreography for IRON, premiering Friday August 13 at The Ford Amphitheatre. We are word-crafting our performance and educational proposals for next year and getting ready to leave for New York again. Nehara performs with David Rousseve/Reality in the east village and then we will offer master classes at Greenwich Academy. September 2009: Derrick & I are back from a full summer on the east coast, including festival performances in Manhattan & New Paltz, a mini-residency and lecture-demonstration workshop on Cape Cod, rehearsing at the heavenly Earthdance retreat, and choreographing for a community production in conjunction with a lec/dem at a great black box theatre in Connecticut. We are digging our heels into the Los Angeles soil again, beginning with our featured performance excerpts as part of the benefit event for P.A.V.E. (Promoting Awareness Victim Empowerment). It takes place upstairs at the grand Dorothy Chandler Pavilion Opera House this Thursday eve 9/17, so come on out and support a worthy cause if you possibly can.
