Description: The official website of Estate of F. N. Souza, Francis Newton Souza was the founder of modern Indian art and the Progressive Artists' Group. Francis Newton Souza was born in Goa, India, in 1924. He founded the Progressive Artists Group in 1947 in Bombay with Ara, Bakre, Gade, Husain, Raza. He emigrated to London in 1949 where he won major recognition for his work. He moved to the United States in 1967 and lived in New York until his death in Mumbai in 2002
