Description: Austin Szelkowski, Dillon Norton, and American Pioneer Ventures have teamed up on a multifaceted project that will inspire and foster the next generation of pioneers in the US and abroad. That project is The Freedom Project . By providing entrepreneurship-focused mentorship, education, networking, and shared business resources, The Freedom Project will create ecosystems in which great ideas and innovators can flourish. The primary goal is the growth of new sustainable and socially-minded companies and industries. What started as a simple transcontinental skate to promote entrepreneurship in American youth ( thefreedomskater.com ) has grown into a much larger movement. Leveraging a myriad of business connections, Szelkowski, Norton, and Dan Hussain, President of APV, cofounded a non-profit, MotorCityChallenge, Inc. ( motorcitychallenge.org ). MCC is a revitalization project and global startup competition for entrepreneurs and innovators in Detroit, MI. It will foster the growth and development of high-potential startup businesses by creating an ecosystem in which innovators can flourish. Leveraging various local and national partnerships, including one with a similar and proven initiative in Boston ( masschallenge.org ), MCC will give America’s best ideas the resources they need to take root and grow. The MCC leadership team intends to distribute $500,000 in cash prizes for the first year of the competition, which is set to begin in May 2011.
