SS ROBIN

Description: The SS Robin Trust is a registered charity founded in 2002 by photographers Nishani and David Kampfner. The charity is managed by the Kampfners who work with a Board of Trustees, stakeholders, supporters and volunteers, who are dedicated to making this unique project a success. The project has established an excellent reputation for its innovative and ambitious learning programme which challenges the perceived wisdom of heritage, creating a space without borders and providing students and visitors the freedom to take risks, use their initiative and challenge themselves to explore and experience first hand. The antithesis to traditional learning environments such as schools and universities where education is normally delivered, it's a heritage space that's relevant for any era and any age. The SS Robin project's main aim is to support young people to realise and tap into their potential to be resourceful, creative, capable and intuitive. It also provides access to real world, industry-based learning experiences, away from the classroom, familiar teachers and known environments. Participants and visitors immerse themselves in the unfamiliar and find a way to make sense of it by using their own input, initiative and talents. The space is housed in SS Robin, a unique steamship built in London in 1890 at a time when risk-taking and enterprise was powering the Industrial Revolution and shaping the social and economic environment we enjoy today.
