What's New at Tiny Tots Development Center?

Description: Since 1969, Tiny Tots Development Center (TTDC) has provided licensed childcare, preschool, after school care, and education services for children from birth to age 12. We serve children and families from a variety of ethnic and economic backgrounds at four South Seattle locations. Most of the families we serve are low-to-moderate income; many are single-parent families, refugees, or immigrants. TTDC provides free or subsidized childcare and preschool to some parents through our participation in the City of Seattle’s ECEAP program. TTDC has preschool and child care programs at Emerson Elementary School and Wing Luke Elementary School. Many working parents have chosen our before and after school programs for children up to age 12, reassured by the knowledge that their children are in a safe place with activities and nutritious snacks during times when many children go unsupervised. Our mission is to provide a safe, caring environment to aid the growth and development of young children. Some of our staff works with infants and toddlers as caregivers, but even at this young age, educational opportunities exist. We teach by using the Creative Curriculum model of learning through play and combination of self-directed and teacher-led learning activities. Before acceptance into kindergarten in Seattle Public Schools, children undergo assessment by consultants who visit the child care site. Our goal is to teach children basic concepts that will help them develop reading, writing, and cognitive skills, in addition to passing the kindergarten assessment. In addition, TTDC provides after school learning opportunities through our after school Community Learning Center (CLC) program at Van Asselt Elementary School. A September 2006 report from the Washington Superintendent of Public Instruction indicated that WASL test scores rose at one of our CLC locations, Van Asselt Elementary School, where we have had a program in place for several years.
