 The Virginia Public Safety Foundation gives aid to the families of Public Safety Officers Killed in the Line of Duty. VPSF also offers financial assistance to wounded police, fire and rescue workers injured in the line of duty. In addition to providing financial assistance for LODD victims, VPSF proudly administers the Governor’s Medal of Valor – the highest award for valor conferred by the Commonwealth. The Medal of Valor and the Governor’s Meritorious Service Medal are only awarded to those public safety officers who have gone above and beyond the call of duty. Honorees are strictly chosen by the Governor for this award. Furthermore, VPSF serves as the administrator for the Commonwealth Public Safety Memorial being constructed at Virginia's Capital Square to honor public safety officers killed in the line of duty.  VPSF also provides financial assistance for education to the surviving spouse and dependent children of LODD victims.
