The 1956 Hungarian Revolution was the first tear in the Iron Curtain. Hungarians from all walks of life rose up against insurmountable odds to fight the brutal Soviet installed Hungarian communist government. The 1956 Portal serves to provide local organizations with a central location to promote awareness of the sacrifices made by the heroes of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution - the first nail in the coffin of Soviet communism and hegemony in Central Europe.
