Athelstan Museum - Capturing the history of Malmesbury Situated in the heart of Malmesbury, Athelstan Museum is a small local museum with big tales to tell, from Athelstan the first King of England to Eilmer the flying monk. We have many artefacts on display that tell the history of Malmesbury and the surrounding villages, including a Roman coffin, the renowned Malmesbury lace collection and many wonderful old pictures of the area. We hold family days such as the celebration of Eilmer where models of Eilmer were made and flown down Malmesbury Abbey re-enacting his original flight and we also have a programme of exhibitions that explore a local event or local point of interest.
