Divine Peace Lutheran School has been serving the educational needs of the Prince George's County Upper Marlboro, MD private school community since 1982 and we are part of the fourth largest private/parochial school system in the United States (WELS). The academic and faith-filled environment we provide for children simply cannot be found in our public school systems and we provide it at a very affordable cost. We provide full-day kindergarten through grade 8 complete with after school care and enrichment programs. The students at Divine Peace graduate with a solid academic foundation that prepares them well for high school and beyond.
Our curriculum stresses traditional core subjects in addition to offering Art, Physical Education, Music and Computer programs. Class sizes are small, and students benefit from a mixed grade envvironment that allows older students to review materials learned in previous years, while younger students may challenge themselves with more advanced topics. The excellence of the academic programs at Divine Peace is reflected in standard achievement test scores that consistently place our students above grade level.
We provide a positive structured environment beginning with a uniform dress code but ultimately centering on our love and commitment to God. The children have many opportunities to develop and express their Christian faith in daily devotions, prayer and religious studies and choir opportunities. Our students are taught and encouraged to love God and to love and care for each other.
Curriculum
K-1: Divine Peace provides an environment that creates the security children need to explore and experiment. Our goal is to instill a life-long love of learning and a quest for knowledge.
Kindergarten: Our reading program uses both whole language and phonics. The goal of our math program is to develop a solid foundation through hands-on experience and discussion. Students learn to excel in solving problems, engaging ideas and creating solutions. We offer a rare combination of caring teachers, small classes, personal attention, and a developmental approach to integrated subject matter.
Grades 2, 3, & 4: Our students become active thinkers, makers and explorers of ideas. They accomplish this through academic skill development, imaginative abstract thinking, and organization and discipline.
Grades 5, 6, 7, & 8: The needs of adolescents are unique. No longer children, but not yet teenagers, the upper grade students require a special combination of structure and challenge. LES's small classes allow teachers to give each child the support and encouragement he or she needs to thrive. Our curriculum is departmentalized to prepare students for high school.
Curriculum: English, mathematics, social studies (history, geography, civics), science, Spanish, computers, health, physical education, religion, and music (vocal and instrumental) are incorporated into the academic requirements of K through 8th grade.
