Established in 1971 by William I. Houghton, N. Stewart Quarty, and Frank M. Warr as Houghton, Quarty and Warr.
HQW Architects offers a complete range of architectural, interior design, planning, and engineering services. These include; building design, historic preservation, master planning, site planning, landscape design, feasibility studies, capital needs assessments, acoustic design, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering. These services can take our clients from project inception through to final completion.
In recent years the firm has restructured into an limited liability corporation led by founding partner Frank Warr and our newest partner Sergio J. Chavarria. A growing list of current projects, an expanding staff, and the desire to better serve our clientele has enabled us to expand throughout the Tri-state region. The senior staff of HQW Architects are all graduate architects: four hold architectural licenses in NJ, NY, PA, CT, RI, DE, MD, and FL.

HQW has a strong commitment to the principles and standards of sustainable architecture. We are strong advocates of environmentally sensitive building practices. HQW is a LEED Certified architectural firm and is a member of the United States Green Building Council. Sergio J. Chavarria, RA, LEED and Peter P. Andruskiewicz, III, RA, LEED guide the design of our client’s projects to be environmentally responsive in both their design and construction practices.
Other licenses include NJ Planner, NJ Certified Interior Designer, Building Inspector, and Class 1 HHS Fire Inspector. All principles are members of the AIA and are NCARB accredited. We are certified by the NJDPMC, NJSDA, and the Philadelphia School District.
