Gareth Owen This is the website for poet, novelist and broadcaster Gareth Owen.
Owen first emerged as a prize-winning writer of poetry for children.
He broke new ground in the 60s by writing poetry that grew out of the ordinary, everyday lives of the children he was teaching at the time. The poems somehow managed to be both workaday and yet innovative. He was, for example, the first children's poet to write both seriously and yet humorously about football.
One emminent poet and critic at the time described Owen's children's poetry as being both beautiful and at the same time down-to-earth.

He is also a highly accomplished reader of both his own and other writers' work and reads on the BBC, and in schools and colleges and Arts Centres all over the country.
