GLOWA - Global Change and the Hydrological Cycle The aim of GLOWA is the development of strategies for sustainable and future-oriented water management on a regional level while taking into account global environmental changes and socio-economic framework conditions. The programmatic orientation of GLOWA focuses on case studies for large river catchment areas (i.e. some 100,000 km2), where simultaneous research is done in a collaborative research programme o interrelations between changes in the hydrological cycle, and the large-scale climate and precipitation variability, changes in the biosphere (in particular caused by changes in the land use) as well as the effects on water availability and related conflicts of use.
